Initial Practice Exam for HSPT, TACHS, and SHSAT

We are now having practice exams for the current 7th graders (and any 6th or 5th graders that would like to start early) for the TACHS, HSPT, and SHSAT. All students take a practice test before our first lesson. This initial assessment helps us group similar students with similar goals as well as to compare to all future practice tests. We will have additional practice tests every four to ten weeks until the real tests to evaluate progress and get them as accustomed to the format of the exam. Most students score very poorly on their first practice test as they need to master the material much better. Too many students just memorize material for school exams and then forget it. They need to incorporate it into their long-term memory so they can quickly recall it for an exam and build other more complex skills on top of this foundation. One of our goals is to instill this idea in preparation for these exams. These tests will evaluate how much of the information has been retained so that we can create an optimal plan.

December 9, 2017 from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM in Staten Island

December 16, 2017 from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM in Staten Island

February 24, 2018 from 4PM-7PM in Staten Island - https://goo.gl/posts/ePosF

Other tests TBD - Contact Me for more information and to reserve your spot or book below. Space is limited.
The price is $20 per student for a three hour practice test.

There will be other tests scheduled, but the earliest practice exams will have the most students and give the most realistic feel. Even if you want to start in a few months, it would be wise to take a test now. For tests like the HSPT (Regis, Xavier Scholarship exam) or SHSAT (Staten Island Technical High School, Stuyvesant, Brooklyn Tech), preparation should begin at least a year in advance for best results.

Based on the results of the exams, we will suggest options for individual (1 on 1) or group tutoring with students with similar goals and abilities. Groups may be focused on one specific test (like the TACHS) or a combination of tests (TACHS/HSPT and TACHS/SHSAT are very popular - some groups even focus on TACHS/HSPT/SHSAT or add ISEE and SSAT).

Please see our previous results:

We look forward to helping your student.

HSPT and TACHS Scholarship Results in 2017

Below is a summary of the results of about 40 students that I tutored who will enter high school in September 2017. Most prep was in group lessons. They earned over $1,400,000 in academic scholarships to high schools in Manhattan, Staten Island, and Brooklyn.
  • Regis High School, Manhattan
    •  five full four-year scholarships/acceptances-valued at over $20,000/year = more than $80,000 over four years each. I helped 11 students prepare for the HSPT for Regis. Although six did not make it, many of them earned a scholarships to Xavier or other schools.
  • Xavier High School, Manhattan
    • three full four-year scholarships = $18,200/year = more than $72,800 over four years each
    • two approximately half scholarships = $7,000/year = about $28,000 over four years each
  • Xaverian High School, Brooklyn
    • two full four-year scholarships = $13,900/year = more than $55,600 over four years each
    • two half scholarships = $6,950/year = more than $27,800 over four years each
    • two quarter scholarships = $3,475/year = more than $13,900 over four years each
    • one 1500/year scholarship = $6,000 over four years
  • St. Peter's Boys High School, Staten Island
    • three full four-year scholarships = $8,070/year = more than $32,280 over four years each
  • St. Joseph Hill Academy, Staten Island
    • one $1,500/year scholarship = $6,000 over 4 years
  • Staten Island Academy, Staten Island
    • one three-quarters scholarship = $101,845 over 4 years valued here.
  • St. Joseph by the Sea High School, Staten Island
    • five full four-year scholarships = $7,350/year = more than $29,400 over four years each
    • two half scholarships = $3,675/year = more than $14,700 over four years each
    • one quarter scholarship = $1,837.5/year = more than $7,900 over four years
  • Monsignor Farrell High School, Staten Island
    • four full four-year scholarships = $7,900/year = more than $31,600 over four years each
    • one quarter scholarship = $1,975/year = more than $7,900 over four years
    • one $1,000/year scholarship = $4,000 over four year
This is a sum of more than 1.4 million dollars in academic scholarships. Everyone got into their first choice and most students made all three high schools on the TACHS. Many were accepted to the Honors and/or Scholars programs.

On average, each student earned over $35,000 in scholarships over four years.

17 out of the 40 students earned a scholarship. This is almost half of students I tutored.

14 of those students earned at least $25,000 in combined scholarships. This is slightly more than 1 out of every 3 students who I tutored.

8 students earned over $50,000 in combined scholarships. This is 1 out of every 5 students that I tutored.

Additionally, tutors who used my resources and were mentored by me helped their students earn scholarships and entrance to Xavier, Farrell, St. Peter's, St. John Villa Academy, St. Joseph Hill, Notre Dame Academy, Archbishop Molloy, Chaminade, Christian Brother's Academy, and many other schools in Staten Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and even Queens. This totaled over $100,000 in scholarships.

These scholarships were a large percentage of the total scholarships given by these schools. I will post further analysis on this and the quantifiable value that we add in the future here.

Preparation for the rigorous high school entrance exams in New York such as the Test for Admission to Catholic High Schools and High School Placement Tests has already begun. Contact me to talk about how we can get the best results from your student. Sixth and seventh grade is a great time to start, not only because of the impending high school entrance exams but also because grades in 7th grade matter heavily for entrance into most high schools. Most topics in Algebra, Physics, Chemistry, Math, and Calculus rely on concepts learned/mastered around 7th and 8th grade.

Check out what some of the parents and students have said: Google Business Reviews and Reviews

Values are 2016-2017 tuition from TACHSinfo.com. It is safe to assume these will increase within 4 years. Regis is estimated to be $20,000/year in 2015.
